Sr Hardware Design Team Lead (Optical Systems)

Our client is rapidly scaling and looking to add an experienced high-speed hardware design leader to their hardware systems team in Ottawa.  In this role you will be responsible for leading a small team of hardware designers that are responsible for the design and delivery of carrier-grade hardware used for optical line systems capable of 400Gbps and beyond.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead hardware development projects and advise and mentor hardware, mechanical, and FPGA team members.
  • Responsible for creating and evolving hardware architectures for 1RU transport platform.
  • Project lead for other resources like mechanical design and FPGA design including program effort estimation and program resource planning.
  • Own all aspects of circuit pack development schedule, prototype delivery, product testing and product certification.
  • Work with product line management and other managers to interpret and negotiate product features and specifications.
  • Lead and interface with contract resources outside of your organization or external to the company.
  • Define technical specifications to support design concepts and participate in specification reviews.
  • Participate in design reviews, guide technical discussions to conclusion.
  • Interface with component vendors and negotiate design specifications with external suppliers
  • Review Designs to ensure they meet architecture goals.
  • Support the technology transfer to manufacturing/production testing.
Requirements: 
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent coupled with 10+ years of experience in optical transport equipment development or high-speed circuit pack development.
  • Experience with 1RU carrier-grade system requirements and high-speed optical transmission systems.
  • Experience with board level development and being a team lead for development projects.
  • Experience and understanding of design for testability and manufacturability concepts.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with a variety of optical interfaces and telecommunications standards up to 400G and beyond.
