We've partnered with an award-winning world-leader in the Building Automations Space to assist in finding a Communication Protocols expert to join their team in a permanent role at their Toronto HQ.
The Building Automation Protocols Engineer is responsible for design and development of  embedded controls options for exchanging data with other automation systems and equipment over standard BAS protocols.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Stay up to date in the communication protocols used in commercial buildings, including new features, trends, and new protocols
  • Help determine which protocols and options should be available in each product, and the hardware implications
  • Develop, debug, and test modular and portable code which implements the communication protocols and options selected, for the available controls’ hardware
  • Design test cases for the embedded software developed
  • Support functional and regression testing of communication software and hardware
  • Develop internal and external documentation for the features developed
  • Follow the company development standards and procedures, including those for documentation
Role Requirements 
  • University degree or college diploma in computer science or electronics
  • Certifications in BACnet, Modbus, APIs
  • Cybersecurity certifications a plus
Experience
 
  • Minimum 3 years implementing embedded communications software
  • RS-485 and Ethernet experience a must
  • Experience debugging, troubleshooting, and testing
  • Experience writing code in Java, C or C++
  • Used off-the-shelf embedded platforms (e.g. Raspberry Pi, etc.)
  • Experience with drivers and middleware
  • Experience developing code for IoT devices a plus
  • Experience with cloud connectivity (APIs, cybersecurity) a plus
  • Experience integrating third party software a plus
  • Experience implementing wireless communications a plus
  • Embedded hardware design experience a plus
