Data Science Lead

We have partnered with a recognized leader in the Canadian fintech space to search for Data Science Lead. This role will focus on working directly with machine learning and statistical models for digital applications to influence thousands of customers. The right person for this role is passionate about challenging the status-quo and is interested in creating innovative solutions to next-gen business related obstacles.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Partner with Business Unit stakeholders to guide their decisions using data
  • Provide technical leadership from design to implementation of machine learning initiatives that drive business value
  • Coach and mentor data scientist developers to build and maintain skills in leading data science techniques and technologies
  • Supervise data scientist team, provide regular feedback on performance, conduct semi-annual performance reviews, provide career development guidance
  • Demonstrate specialized skills and standardized data science techniques (eg, regression, segmentation, deep learning, feature importance and model explainability logging, model drift monitoring)
  • Partner with Data Architecture and Enterprise Architecture teams on the approval of new architectures required to support data science solutions
  • Collaborate with members of the Enterprise Data Services team to identify and acquire new data sources and provide input into data transformation rules required to prepare data for advanced analytics use cases
  • Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines: work closely with the Enterprise Data Services team to build models, tables or schemas that support business processes
  • Engage with management and cross-functional team members throughout projects lifecycle. Delivering insight presentations, communicating technical material and growing others technical understanding
  • Support the innovation objectives of the organization by proactively identifying and championing projects that solve complex business problems through the application of data science techniques
  • Produce analysis on the financial and actuarial impact of machine learning initiatives
  • Act as a consultant on machine learning topics. Recommend to management data science best practices

  • Bachelors degree related to computer science, data, or actuarial sciences is preferred.
  • 5+ years or more experience working professionally in a role related to Data Science
  • Extensive developer experience using a variety of programming languages and computing platforms
    relevant to data science and machine learning, eg C++, Python, Juptyer, Spark, etc
  • Experience deploying and scaling ML solutions using open-source frameworks (MLFlow, TFX, H2O, etc.)
  • Strong leadership skills are a must:
