VP Engineering — Power Electronics / Semiconductor Technology
VP Engineering — Power Electronics / Semiconductor Technology
Vancouver, BC
TalentLab has partnered with a Vancouver-based deep technology company to identify a Vice President of Engineering to lead its multidisciplinary engineering organization through its next stage of product development and commercialization.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP Engineering will have broad responsibility across IC development, electronics/hardware, firmware, validation, and industrialization. This is an executive leadership role for someone who combines strong technical credibility with the ability to build the processes, priorities, and organizational accountability required to turn differentiated technology into successful commercial products.
The Role
The VP Engineering will:
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organization.
- Define and implement a scalable product development process appropriate for a growing technology company.
- Establish development approaches that recognize the different requirements of IC and broader electronics development.
- Translate customer and market requirements into product architecture, technology roadmaps, and engineering priorities.
- Lead products from development through validation, manufacturing readiness, and commercialization.
- Make resource, capacity, and prioritization decisions across competing programs.
- Partner directly with the CEO and founders on technology, product, and company-level decisions.
- Build accountability and execution discipline without introducing unnecessary process or organizational complexity.
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for an engineering leader with significant experience in power electronics, semiconductors, power conversion, advanced electronics, or a closely related field, along with a track record of developing and commercializing complex technology products.
Strong candidates will bring experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, ideally through other managers and technical leaders, and have demonstrated the ability to connect technical decisions with customer, product, and commercial requirements.
Experience building or evolving product development processes, particularly across semiconductor/IC and broader electronics environments, will be highly valued.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a startup or scale-up environment, making difficult decisions with incomplete information, challenging senior stakeholders when appropriate, and balancing technical excellence with cost, schedule, manufacturability, reliability, and commercial objectives.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join a Canadian deep-tech company at an important stage of its evolution, as the focus increasingly shifts from technology development toward productization, commercialization, and scale.
The incoming VP Engineering will have significant influence over the engineering organization, product development approach, technology roadmap, and the company's next phase of growth.
