We've partnered with a global leader in IoT and connected transportation who's focus is advancing security, connecting commercial vehicles to the internet and providing web-based analytics to help customers better manage their fleets. Their open platform and Marketplace, offering hundreds of third-party solution options, allows both small and large businesses to automate operations by integrating vehicle data with their other data assets. Processing billions of data points a day, they're able to leverage data analytics and machine learning to improve productivity, optimize fleets through the reduction of fuel consumption, enhance driver safety and achieve strong compliance to regulatory changes.

As a Software Development Manager you're focused on leading a diverse development community to successful software delivery in a complex enterprise environment.  You love coaching and mentoring and believe that the success of your team is the best indicator of your leadership skills.  You take responsibility for leading a team of developers, architects, engineers, and QA professionals - focusing on hands-on leadership, development best-practices and servant leadership.  
What you'll do
Your team will be focused on building a state of the art telematics platform that makes sense of the data collected by our custom built hardware. We receive detailed data and metrics for millions of vehicles globally, which is processed and interpreted to create actionable information for our customers. Your team will contribute to a dynamically scalable system by leading architecture, design, and end-to-end development of key features in our applications based on highly performant code (C#.NET) and SQL queries to process and store this information in real-time.
How you'll make an impact
  • Direct software development projects; develop and implement efficient, clean code with assigned team that satisfies customer requirements.

  • Manage team with regards to task assignments, work arrangements and other Software Development Department expectations.

  • Ensure work progress stays on schedule and update stakeholders on project status.

  • Manage, measure and change an Agile development process, e.g., SCRUM, Kanban.

  • Collaborate with other development teams on design and implementation of features spanning multiple products.

  • Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and PoCs.

  • Participate in various cross-functional meetings, removing roadblocks for team members as required.

  • Provide expert project-leadership and guidance to the team as a Subject Matter Expert.

  • Oversee the activities and performance of direct reports: Provide direction, coaching and mentorship to the team; Engage in the development of the team by coaching, providing feedback, identifying areas of growth and training opportunities; Collaborate and support employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning.

What you'll bring to this role
  • Diploma/Degree specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5-8 years experience as a Software Developer using object-oriented programming to build scalable applications.

  • Experience with SQL Server and Postgres database design, optimization and writing queries.

  • Experience with general-purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python).

  • Knowledge with optimizing databases (e.g. MySQL).

  • Strong working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and messaging queues such as Google Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ.

  • Leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.

  • Success with coaching and development of employees.

  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.

  • Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions and manage projects through to completion.

  • A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
